Volunteers in Africa with Projects Abroad work with some of the poorest communities and in some of the most interesting places on the continent. Massively diverse, our volunteer programmes parallel the variety of the continent itself: from the Arabic hospitality of Morocco to the complex modern history of South Africa.
At Projects Abroad we welcome volunteers in Africa from all backgrounds and experiences: our projects cover teaching, working in orphanages and with disadvantaged children, environmental conservation, medical programmes and more. While the reality of Africa can be confronting, we operate on a community level through our host family network, so you will truly get to know the people of Africa, and your contribution as a volunteer will be absolutely worthwhile. From school-leavers to those seeking a career break, Projects Abroad provides opportunities to explore Africa, and through your efforts, give something to people who will truly appreciate it.
Volunteer Programs Across Africa
The first step to volunteering in Africa is to select one of the 7 countries we send volunteers. There is one country in every region: Morocco, Ethiopia, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, Tanzania and South Africa. With such a diversity of countries and cultures, there are a range of possibilities for exploring amazing sights and sounds in Africa.
The next step is to select the project you feel you are most interested in, and most able to contribute to. You could be teaching English in a rural village, caring for street children or providing that extra pair of hands which makes a difference for a medical clinic in Africa.

Projects Abroad is able to provide such worthwhile volunteer placements because we have offices in each country where we work. Our staff on the ground work with local NGOs to find the placements where volunteers are needed most – you can be sure that if you volunteer with us, you are reaching the people who need your skills and commitment. Our local staffassist you every day of your placement, and are on-call 24/7 to help you adjust to your life as a volunteer in Africa!
Sharing the volunteer experience is a part of the way Projects Abroad operates. You are linked up with volunteers from all over the world: from the USA to Denmark, and you are likely to share a host family with other volunteers. Each week brings new social events, and chances to get to know your new host country. Africa can be a tough place to live, so its nice to have friends!
