- Placement Location: San Remigio or Bogo City
- Types of Placements: Primary school
- Accommodation: Host family
- Age Requirements: 15-18 years old
Volunteer on our Care & Community High School Special in the Philippines and join a group of high school students from around the world working to help a local community. Assist teachers with their classes and teach fun lessons about important topics like healthy eating. When you are not teaching, help with renovation and maintenance work at the school.
Teachers in the Philippines are responsible for educating large groups of children and keeping their classrooms clean and safe. They don’t always have the time to teach children important life skills they need to learn. Be a source of extra support for teachers by teaching life skill classes, doing fun and creative educational activities, and making sure that classrooms are clean.
The work you do goes beyond the school. In San Remigio, litter is often discarded on beaches and in parks, and there is little proper waste management. This is a danger to local wildlife and can damage the ecosystem. You will take part in community clean-ups to help solve the problem.
Here are the activities you get involved with during your time in the Philippines:
- Teach classes about nutrition and hygiene.
- Lead workshops on topics like bullying, tuberculosis prevention, and climate change.
- Assist with cleaning the school and light maintenance work.
- Participate in community clean-ups.
While volunteering in the Philippines, you live with a local host family and other High School Special volunteers. This is great for immersing yourself in Filipino culture while learning about the cultures and backgrounds of volunteers from around the world. During your free time, spend time chatting, playing cards, and tucking into delicious home-cooked Filipino dishes.
During the weekend, you will take a trip to Santa Fe, where you will stay in a hotel and swim, and relax by the pool with the friends you make on your trip.
If you want to stay for more than two weeks, this project is also available as a 4-week program on select dates. Stay longer, spend more time at your placement, and do more work in the community. Those joining us on the 4-week program will also get extra visits and activities arranged during the weekends, like snorkelling around the coral reefs of Capitancillo Islet, zip lining at Caputatan Norte, and taking a boat ride to the white sand beaches of Gibitngil Island.
