Care & Community in South Africa

Based in Cape Town, the Care & Community Short-term Special project gives you the opportunity to work with children from disadvantaged communities in one of the local townships. You will learn about South Africa's culture as you explore and get to know the rainbow nation.

Volunteers work at day care centres. You will help young children with basic care and promote early childhood development, including running educational games focusing on literacy levels.

During your placement you will also get involved with various practical work like helping to run a soup kitchen scheme for a local community and general repair work at a day care centre such as painting, cleaning and renovation work.  The four-week project allows you to have more of an impact on the communities in which we work.

Volunteers on this project in South Africa will live with some of the other Short-term Special volunteers in a host family.

You will also have time to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery that Cape Town and the surrounding area has to offer; whether you view the city from the top of Table Mountain, visit the penguins at Boulders Beach or explore some of the legendary Garden Route.

Volunteers will also have the opportunity to visit Robben Island, Table Mountain, do a Peninsula Tour and a Township Tour, and to visit a local market.
