Diving & Marine Conservation & Community in Thailand
High School Projects for 15-18 Year Olds

Project Overview

  • TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Diving and Conservation work
  • ACCOMMODATION: Guesthouse
  • AGE REQUIREMENTS: 15-18 years old

Conservation volunteers prepare to dive to conduct fish surveys

This project is ideal for anyone with a keen interest in marine life who wants to make a positive impact on a local community.

During your stay, you will complete an internationally recognised PADI Open Water certification course. In the initial stages when you are in shallow water, you will learn how to breathe, clear your mask and equalise pressure. You will also become familiar with the buddy system and underwater sign language.

Once you have qualified, your efforts are rewarded as you descend into a stunningly clear underwater world of tropical fish, turtles, sea urchins and corals that you never knew existed. You’ll help with our underwater conservation efforts such as reef checks, fish surveys and other forms of data collection.

Your land-based work will be focused on improving a public space within the community. Previous groups have built a playground at a kindergarten and created an aquaculture pond in a local park. Depending on the weather, you may also have the chance to get involved with beach clean-ups and mangrove reforestation initiatives in the area.

All of the volunteers on this project live together in a comfortable guesthouse near the beach.

Your schedule will also allow time for adventure, culture and tourism, including a kayak trip, a visit to a local market, lots of fiery Thai food, and a Thai massage.
