Volunteer Pharmacy Projects Abroad
Volunteer with Projects Abroad on a Pharmacy project and use your time overseas to enhance your knowledge of the field, learn new skills, and gain practical experience. Whether you are a student pursuing a degree or qualification in pharmacy, a trained professional, or somewhere in-between, you will have a role to play at your placement in a developing country. Your project will be tailored whenever possible to suit your specific interests and level of experience.
Volunteering abroad on a Pharmacy placement
As a volunteer on a Pharmacy Project, you will have the opportunity to observe and learn about how healthcare systems and local medical professionals work in a developing country. Most of the medical facilities and pharmacies where we work often lack resources, are understaffed, and have basic or out-of-date equipment.
During your overseas placement, you will shadow and work alongside professional medical staff and pharmacists. We encourage you to ask questions and take notes while observing trained pharmacists at work; this will help you get the most out of your experience. You will also have a qualified supervisor who will guide you and offer advice whenever needed.
While a lot of your time will be spent observing pharmacists in clinical settings, you will also have the chance to put your basic medical knowledge and skills into practice on outreach programmes. These programmes take place in rural communities where access to basic medical treatment and medication is difficult or scarce. You can expect to get involved in conducting health checks and assisting with the recording and dispensation of prescribed medicines under supervision.
