Volunteer in the Maldives

Support marine conservation efforts on soft sand beaches and in turquoise waters

Immerse yourself in authentic island life while contributing to vital conservation and community projects in the Maldives.

Swim through crystal-clear, turquoise waters and feel the cool, white, coral sand between your toes. Soak up the sun as you support sea turtle rehabilitation, conduct beach cleans, and survey coral reefs.

Stay in our comfortable volunteer guesthouse on the local island of Naifaru, giving you the chance to explore Maldivian culture while maintaining easy access to your placement locations.

Try traditional Maldivian dishes using local ingredients and flavours, join in with local social activities like beachside sports and yoga sessions, and truly unwind on a chain of islands often known as “Paradise on Earth.”

Where we are based in the Maldives

Naifaru

Located in the Lhaviyani Atoll, a 40 minute seaplane flight north of the capital Male, Naifaru is a small island that’s home to approximately 5,000 people. It is one of the most densely populated islands in the Maldives, offering a more authentic look at local life than a typical tourist resort.

Naifaru is famous for its fishing industry and skilled traditional craftsmanship. It has a tropical climate and friendly community, making it an authentic way to access the culture of the Maldives.

Airport Pickup, Flights and Visas

When you arrive at Velana International Airport in Malé, our team will coordinate your transfer to Naifaru. You'll take a short domestic flight to nearby Madivaru Airport and a short boat directly to the island. You can find more detailed information on arrival airports, transfers, orientation, and visas on our Maldives Arrival Procedures page.

Safety and Staff Support

Your safety and security is our prime concern. We have many procedures and systems to ensure you have the support you need to enjoy your trip with peace of mind. The local staff are available 24 hours a day to help, and will be on hand to make sure you settle in well at your accommodation and placement. If you encounter any problems, they will be available to help at any time.

All marine activities including diving, snorkelling, and turtle rehabilitation work are conducted under strict safety protocols with certified marine biologists and proper equipment maintenance checks. We maintain close relationships with Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital and local emergency services to ensure rapid response if needed.
