  • Discover Ghana’s diverse flora and fauna with a trip to the dense rainforest of Kakum National Park and explore the treetops with a canopy walk.
  • Visit sites such as Parliament House, Kwame Nkrumah Museum, Cape Coast, and Aburi Gardens, gaining insight into Ghana’s rich history.
  • Participate in lessons in cultural traditions, such as drumming and dancing, cooking, traditional arts and crafts, and the Twi language.

What to expect

Begin in Accra with cultural orientation and Twi language workshops, immediately inviting you to understand and engage meaningfully with local culture.

School-based project work focuses on bringing students together to discuss important global issues. You’ll lead talks on human rights, host empowering workshops for school groups, and build rapport with community youth. Thought-provoking debates allow both local students and travelling students to explore social justice together, from local and global perspectives.

You’ll also work alongside educators in projects such as enhancing school green areas, developing botanical gardens, and leading reading or sports clubs. These hands-on activities enrich school environments while fostering creativity and teamwork.

Excursions to sites like Kakum National Park and Lake Volta will expose you to Ghana’s rich biodiversity and beautiful natural environments.

There’s plenty of opportunity to learn more about Ghanaian culture too -  through shared meals with local families, drumming lessons, and dance classes. This programme provides an engaging real-world learning environment to foster cross-cultural connections, explore global humanitarian and conservation issues, and make a valuable contribution to community-led initiatives.

Why choose Ghana for your Learning Service programme?

Ghana offers students an opportunity to engage with both historic and contemporary Africa in a safe and structured setting. This Learning Service programme balances cultural immersion with active community involvement, focused on school-based activities.

A unique aspect of this programme is its focus on student-led workshops and debates. Students from both the Ghanaian group and the visiting school group will engage together in lively debates which truly bring learning to life. You’ll also play an active role in hands-on projects that contribute to creating better learning environments.

It represents a rare chance to deliver curriculum-linked experiences in human rights, social justice, and development, while enabling students to see the tangible impact of their service within schools and communities.
