What to expect
This Learning Service programme is a rich blend of culture, service, and discovery. Living in the heart of a rural Maasai community with whom we have been working for many years, you’ll have the chance to experience authentic village life in Tanzania.
The community service work on this programme is centered around educational improvement, and you’ll engage directly with local people through your work in the Maasai school. Get involved in varied projects such as helping with school yard enhancements, assisting teachers, and supporting renovation projects.
Meet with local women’s groups and learn about gender equality, women’s empowerment and climate challenges - bringing to life lessons in global sustainability and social equality.
Outside of project work, there’s plenty of opportunity to become immersed in local culture through Swahili lessons, traditional drumming and dancing, and visits to vibrant markets.
Your time in Tanzania will be full of adventure too. Hike to the stunning Materuni Waterfalls at the foot of Kilimanjaro, unwind in tropical springs, and embark on a breathtaking safari across the Tarangire Park and Ngorongoro Crater, with the chance to spot some of East Africa’s iconic wildlife.
Why choose Tanzania for your Learning Service programme?
This Learning Service programme in Tanzania offers the rare opportunity to live and work in the heart of a Maasai community - an experience few groups of young people will ever encounter.
This immersive setting provides profound insight into a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for generations. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by rural communities, including the impacts of climate change, social inequality, and limited access to education.
Working alongside local people, you’ll contribute to initiatives designed to directly tackle these issues, putting theory into action. This combination of cultural exchange, meaningful service, and contextual learning creates an enriching experience that leaves a lasting impression on all involved.
You’ll also get to experience the incredible wildlife, impressive landscapes and unforgettable natural beauty of one of Africa’s most impressive destinations.
