Volunteer Culture & Community Projects

Projects Abroad Care and Community volunteers stand with local Tanzanians at a Masai village

Whatever type of overseas voluntary work you choose to do with Projects Abroad you will receive a unique perspective into the culture of the country in which you are working and you will become an integral part of a local community abroad.

This category of volunteer projects is incredibly diverse, giving the opportunity to interact with and contribute to communities in many ways. Volunteers on community projects might find themselves teaching children of nomadic Mongolian families, working with drama and dance groups in Romania, teaching basic IT skills in Ghana or Sri Lanka or working on literacy and cultural preservation initiatives in Jamaica.

At Projects Abroad we hope your placement gives you the opportunity to forge real connections with real people in the country in which you volunteer, using and developing your skills in music, dance, building or working alongside people in unique environments such as Vietnamese stilt villages or with Moroccan nomads on the edge of the Sahara.

Culture & Community project destinations:

The projects in this Culture & Community section place you at the heart of some of the most unusual communities in the world.

By volunteering abroad on these projects you will be contributing towards the preservation of some extraordinary ways of life and working with many local people to achieve a common goal.

Tracy Powell, Nomad volunteer in Mongolia"I did not come back the same person as I was when I left. There were many “gifts” that I bought home with me, none of them that you could see or touch. I gave them “things”. What they gave was more precious than gold. Whenever I need courage to live this life back in “civilisation”, I think of the nomads."
